Sweet Mother

Saturday, June 6, 2009

Tomorrow my 50 year old mother will walk across a stage full of 3,000+ people and receive a piece of paper that only seemed like a dream a few years ago. I am so proud of her and there are not enough words that compensate those feelings. You see my mother moved from Nigeria to US to follow her man's (my daddy) aspirations to further his education. She left all she knew (plus 2 of her other children) and came to the States with 2 of her youngest children. No family. No support. Soon after she worked odd jobs here and there to make ends meet. Finally securing a career where she worked for 10 years while my father went to school. A bachelor and masters degree later, she quit working and became a stay at home mother.

It wasn't until the baby of the family became 14 year, did she decide to go back to school. So now 4 years later, my mother has accomplished what many thought was silly. Desipite the staying up late at night, the nagging, the crying, the uncertainties.....she did it!

Tomorrow, June 7th at 2:00 P.M. my lovely mother will receive her Bachelors Degree in Business Adminstration!!!
